The first step in divorce proceedings is to determine whether the parties are able to reach a settlement in respect of the following :

• Spousal maintenance after divorce ( if any)

• Maintenance of children (if applicable)

• Division of assets ( if married in community of property or in respect of joint assets such as immovable property)

• Application of the accrual (if applicable)

• Care and contact arrangements in respect of minor children
